caigo - venetian fog

During the winter months Venetian fog, or 'caigo' typically shrouds the islands and the lagoon, naturally putting Venice into a monochrome state. Shapes and figures are reduced to dark silhouettes, the familiar become abstraction apparitions of light and reflection, and any fortunate observer is momentarily transported to a timeless dimension. Venice is showcased at its best. And it is a dream for any photographer. Especially one who works in black and white, seeking to reflect the city in its natural beauty.

The 2024 exhibition 'Caigo - Venetian Fog' also featured a over 30 prints as well as a collaborative music video project with Venice-based composer Justine Rapaccioli and the vocal, choral group Edesse Ensemble, with a beautiful rearrangment of the Moody Blues classic 'Nights in White Satin'.  Follow the YouTube link below to hear the track accompanied selected images from my archive.
