During the winter months Venetian fog, or 'caigo' typically shrouds the islands and the lagoon, naturally putting Venice into a monochrome state. Shapes and figures are reduced to dark silhouettes, the familiar become abstraction apparitions of light and reflection, and any fortunate observer is momentarily transported to a timeless dimension.
