Now globally-acknowledged, the carnival is a time when anything can happen and the 'weird and wonderful' spill out into the calle and campi.  Often at the exasperation of the locals, the carnival is undoubted one of the most economically important occasions for the city and never fails to provide inspiration and portrait opportunities for the hundreds of photographers that flock to the event.
