Long Exposures & Fine Art Photography
Long exposure work has long been associated with photography in Venice. Most commonly it involves capturing water in motion and any objects on the surface, such as 'blurry' gondolas bobbing up and down on a flattened lagoon with dreamy, washed out skies. The island and church of San Giorgio provide a wonderful backdrop. Capturing people in flow is a less-common technique that can also be adopted, providing conceptual images of a timeless 'flooded' Venice of ghostly figures passing through the scene. Other techniques such as the use of double exposures in camera, can also create dream-like impressions. Or simply finding the time and space to capture the beauty of the lagoon, the beach environment of the Lido, or Venice shrouded in fog provide other worthy subjects.
Presented here are examples of all these techniques to provide alternate, often abstract, visions of Venice.
