moments on the street

From the narrowest calle (streets) to the widest campi (squares) the urban landscape of Venice offers a fascinating arena to document moments of daily life in a classic style, inspired by film photography and the work of 20th century photography pioneers.  Uncluttered by colour, recording life, through the tonality of monochrome, conveys greater emotion,  feeling and focus on the narrative, drawing the viewer into the scene.   Now, in the 21st century, the contemporary and traditional intertwine and timeless vignettes of Venice life can be caught by wandering the streets, looking down into quiet canal waters, looking up at washing hanging out to dry, observing street ephemera or simply  experiencing life unfold around.  Selected here are some examples of street scenes allowing a contemplation of Venice, both past and present.
